Abstract;More compact and better quality products have been developed as in the case of personal computers and mobile tools like cell phones. As the users want more diversified products, the product life cycle has become extremely short. The main tooling to produce such products in a short time and in mass volume is a mold, of which finished surface precision affects the product workmanship. Therefore, it is very important to improve the finished surface of a mold. High-precision machining is required to achieve lesser post polishing. Furthermore, the machining productivity is improved with the use of high-speed cutting to satisfy short delivery time and low cost. It is essential to achieve high-precision and high-function ball end milling in order to satisfy these requirements. Introduced are the ultra-precision ball end mill of .+-.3.MU.m and the end mill with oval cutting blade along with their performance examples. (author abst.)
