| Abstract;Suture canalization is a new glaucoma surgery reported by Kazama, in which the other end of the 6-O nylon inserted in Schlemm's canal is laid under the ocular conjunctiva. Because we thought this might result in perforation and infection, we instead laid the nylon under the scleral flap. We did this in 15 eyes of 11 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or pseudoexfoliation (PE) glaucoma, treated from March 2001 to August 2002. Average intraocular lens (IOP) was 22.3 mmHg presurgery, 14.5 mmHg at 6 months postsurgery; 17.0 mmHg at 12 months, and 16.5 mmHg at 18 months. We experienced no perforation, but after every operation, average IOP was 2-4 mmHg higher than Kazama' s results. This means that for a long time postsurgery there was slight aqueous leakage from the anterior chamber via the 6-O nylon. (author abst.) |
