Abstract;ESR spectra of the short-lived radicals of DNA bases, ethanol and these mixture formed by the reaction with the hydroxyl radical (OH) were measured using the rapid flow-ESR method. A superposing spectrum of the radical formed from a base and the hydroxyethyl radical was obtained when the base was mixed with ethanol and reacted with OH. The ratio of the quantity of the radicals was calculated from the spectrum and the ratio of the reaction rate constant of the base and ethanol with OH was obtained from it. MO calculation was introduced to ensure that the radical structure estimated from the spectra is most probable among various probabilities. It was also used to explain the difference between the rate constants of bases. (author abst.)
