Abstract; The action of probucol for endothelial function in patient with coronary artery disease (CAD) was examined. And, examination was made which of homocysteine/homocystin (H) and asymmetry dimethyl arginine (ADMA) was a good predictor of atherosclerosis. The CAD group was significantly thicker in endosporium-tunica media thickness (IMT) than the contrast group, and blood flow intermediation vasodilation (FMD) was low, and IMT and FMD showed the negative correlation. There was no significant difference in reactive hyperemia or glyceryltrinitrate induced vasodilation in between both groups. The blood plasma H concentration was significantly high in a CAD group, and positive correlation with IMT and negative correlation with FMD were shown. There was no significant difference in serum lipid and blood plasma ADMA concentration in between both groups, and ADMA did not correlate with IMT and FMD. Though FMD was significantly improved when the probucol was administered to a CAD patient for 3 months, the serum lipid was not improved. The endothelial dysfunction of a CAD patient was improved by long term administration of the probucol, and it was indicated that the blood plasma H concentration would become a predictor of atherosclerosis and the endothelial function.
