Abstract;Laser gap sensing system sets up welding conditions automatically according to the gap width of the welding line was developed. A laser displacement sensor in the robot processes displacement data to determine the welding line gap width. The detection error limit for a single bevel groove was set to less than 0.5mm. Practical results matched very closely with theoretical predictions. (author abst.)
