Abstract; This research attempts to clarify the essence of sugar chain modification mechanism through integrative understanding of ABO blood group. In addition, the study tried to shed light on the expression mechanism of serovars of ABO blood type that mutation in coding region cannot explain. This report describes the structure and transcription mechanism of ABO blood group genes that have been found so far. Also, the paper presents a hypothesis on the course of the synthesis of ABO blood group antigen by the harmonious reactions of enzymes. This includes descriptions of the coordinated expression of ABO and FUT genes, and the catalytic action of fucose transferase FUT1/FUT2 and ABO blood group synthetase.
