Abstract; At a naturally re-vegetated mudflow scar at Mt. Tokachi, the relationship between edaphic conditions of mudflow sediment and natural vegetation succession was investigated by classifying the forest structure and tree species. The surveyed area ranges 250-1800m in altitude, 20km in length with 2km width of the mudflow. Lateral and trans-sectional pattern of natural revegetation, vegetation in scoured, deposited and undisturbed areas, soil edaphic conditions were investigated. Mudflow regimes altered sediment edaphic conditions contributing to the mosaic pattern of forest species, different growth and structure in the mudflow scar.
