Abstract;Conversion of the forest to cultivated land and recent dynamic cultivation changes in the Lam Phachi catchment (2620km2) in west Thailand were investigated using satellite image data (Landsat/MSS,TM,ETM+) and ground survey data. These data were also used to analysis of changes of the river channel to the estuary. Gully erosion at some pineapple fields of slope areas in the tributary Tha Khoei catchment (637km2) was investigated and infiltration rates of the crop field were measured with cylindrical seepage meters. Further, the past changes of suspended sediment concentration were examined using monitoring data of the river. From these results the relationship between the sediment yield and conversion of the forest to cultivated land and recent cultivation changes, and sediment discharge characteristics of the Lam Phachi river were examined.
