Abstract;Laboratory experiments were carried out to examine flow and sediment diversion at an open channel junction, using 8m long model channels with 3 different widths of the main channels with branch channels with 30.DEG. junction intersection angle. The effect of incoming Froude Number and depth ration of the branch to the main channel (d3/d1) on diversion characteristics and patterns of separation zone formation were examined. Flow diversion was primarily dependent on the Froude Number, but less affected by the depth ratio. The sediment diversion was more pronounced than the flow diversion.
