Abstract; The author and Sugiki have developed a portable water sampler suitable for sampling suspended sediments during floods in 1995. They have continued observation of vertical distribution of suspended sediments and riverbed materials for almost every big flood at the Abukuma River mouth using the sampler. Using these data the author evaluated the total sediment discharge for each flood, and the relationship between total river flow rate and total amounts of suspended sediments, and estimated the average annual sediment transport during 1940's to 1990's.
