| Abstract; The Korean government performed the domestic first sand arrestation business in 1907 in order to restore the denuded forest lands on the outskirts of Seoul.Thereafter, the sand arrestation business has been gradually conducted in the whole land of Korea. These forests were superfluously cut down as construction materials or for fuel during the Japanese occupation and the Korean War, but 680,000 ha of the denuded land area in the 1950s were reduced to 120,000 ha in the 1960s.Especially, the denuded land in the coastal area was completely stabilized by the first and second 10-year forest improvement projects. And by the forest resources reinforcement project, the Korean government promoted the rapid restoration of the areas scattered in the denuded forest lands including the landslide zones. And the erosion control dams were constructed on the devastated river beds, and the reforestation is being carried out on the mountainsides. |
