Abstract;Kansai Electric Co. has examined the installment of SVG (Static Var Generator) for the purpose of stabilization of electric power systems and developed highly functional SVG by using a GCT (Gate Commutated Turn-off) thyristor in order to realize low-loss, compact size and cost reduction. This paperdescribes the control method of the developed highly functional SVG (Static Var Generator) and the effectiveness of this control method on voltage stabilization through simulator tests. The outline of the following tests are introduced: 1) AC voltage control performance test, 2) system accident test, and 3) converter tap cooperative control test.
