Abstract;A total of 130 diabetic patients with hypercholesterolemia were divided into three groups: a probucol treated group (500 mg/day, n=56), a pravastatin-treated group (10 mg/day, n=50) and a control group (diet alone, n=24), and the patients were observed for two years. The intima-media thickness (IMT) of the common carotid artery had decreased 12 months later in the probucol group, and 24 months later in the pravastatin group. Probucol therapy was associated with an earlier decrease in IMT of the carotid artery than paravastatin. (author abst.)
