| Abstract; Here was described a method capable of precisely evaluating brittleness of high and middle pressure turbine rotors by using small test pieces. For an index to evaluate degree of brittleness on iron and steel materials, Sharpy impact test results are often used. As this testing method is regulated by JIS standard, it is necessary for the test to use 10 to 20 pieces of bar specimen with 1 cm * 1 cm in section, and it is impossible to adopt such many numbers of test pieces from an actual turbine rotor. Now, here could be obtained its transition temperature by obtaining relationships between temperature and failed area ratio and between temperature and absorbed energy like that in Sharpy impact test by using test pieces of 1.5 mm * 1.5 mm * 20 mm in their sizes. In the Sharpy impact test, as FATT (failed area transition temperature) is used for an index of its brittleness, there is found a good correlation between the transition temperature using this small test pieces and FATT, to enable to evaluate the brittleness by using the small test pieces because of enabling to converting results using the small test pieces to FATT. |
