| Abstract;Needle dropping method and capillary blood collection are taken up as the blood collection method from a newborn infant, and the features, method and cautionary notes for each method are described. Needle dropping method is a method to collect the dropping blood into a container by puncturing an injection needle only in the superficial vein at the back of the hand of the infant. Since the blood is more likely to touch the hand of the blood collector in comparison with usual blood collection, for the blood collection of an infant with the possibility of infectivity such as hepatitis, usual venous centesis by a syringe is performed. Capillary blood collection is similar to the centesis by a lancet at the finger head or ear lobe of the adult, fundamentally, but for an infant, the blood collection is performed at the heel of the sole. In the both methods, blood can be collected without assistance, even from a newborn infant in an incubator. It is not so difficult in technique, and the important point is how minute the necessary amount for examination could be limited. |
