Abstract; We propose a method for determining shape and reflectance of a planar object based on information of shading and motion. Although most of conventional methods assumed that intensity is invariant before and after object's 3D motion, this assumption is not satisfied in general scene. On the other hand, Maki et al. proposed a method which models the variation of intensity due to the motion from a viewpoint of stereo method. Similarly, Mukawa proposed a method from a viewpoint of optical flow detection. However, these methods include some problem respectively. In this paper, we formulate the variation of intensity due to the motion in the framework of infinitesimal motion. We define the evaluation function by combining a gradient equation and an image generation equation. Minimizing this evaluation function, motion, planar parameters and reflectance can be determined.
