Abstract;A high-speed 3D space recognition processing method is proposed that suits many applications such as moving robots that are used for remote communication. First, a 3D space recognition technique based on motion vectors in images captured by a moving active monocular camera is proposed. Triangulation allows us to calculate the 3D coordinates of stationary objects. To greatly increasing processing speed, only the motion vectors of peripheral edges are used. Object existence is recognized using edge contiguity and color uniformity. Experiments with real images confirm the feasibility of 3D space recognition (author abst.)
