| Abstract;Abdominal wall abscess is seldom a primary disorder; many cases are secondary. Inflammation of wound infection or intraabdominal inflammatory legion affects the abdominal wall, and an abscess is formed in subcutaneous tissue or muscular layer. Although there is not much frequency of abdominal wall abscess in childhood, it is known that abdominal wall abscess of the periumbilical area is produced by pathological change in the umbilicus, such as omphalitis, urachal duct, and remnant of vitelline duct. Therefore, identification and treatment of the causal disease are needed simultaneously with diagnosis of abscess. Six cases which we encountered are introduced in this paper. The diagnosis and treatment of abdominal wall abscess of the periumbilical area and the causal diseases of the abscess are described. (author abst.) |
