| Abstract;Portal hypertension is categorized, based on its cause, as cirrhotic or non-cirrhotic portal hypertension, and extrahepatic portal hypertension (EHPH) is classified into the latter category. EHPH is one of the most important causes of gastrointestinal bleeding in children, and it sometimes presents with life-threatening massive bleeding. Omphalitis has been identified as one of the causative factors of EHPH, and this article discusses the feature of "umbilicus". Here we present the cause, diagnosis and treatment of EHPH as well as our views on the etiology of EHPH based on previous findings. (author abst.) |
