Abstract;Rectus abdominis fascia has commonly been closed during the repair of umbilical hernia. The umbilical appearance after the procedure has sometimes been flat and unsatisfactory. To reduce this disadvantage, our technique of umblicoplasty has intentionally prolonged the opening of the fascia Then the center of the umbilical skin is pulled through the space prepared between the fascia and the peritoneum. A mattress stitch anchors the umbilical skin under the fascia Without leaving a defect, the opening of the fascia is covered with the umbilical skin The recurrence rate with this procedure is 1.7%. The cosmetic result is excellent or acceptable. (author abst.)
