Abstract;Prenatal diagnosis and management, associated anomalies, postnatal management, and surgical treatment in patients with omphalocele are discussed in this report. In our experience with 44 cases of omphalocele, 27 cases were diagnosed prenatally. Eight of 15 cases were diagnosed before 22 weeks of gestation in the last 10 years. Of 27 fetuses with omphalocele, 2 were terminated, 6 were delivered vaginally, and 19 were delivered by planned or emergency cesarean section. Eighty-four percent of the cases had associated anomalies, and 16 percent had chromosomal abnormalities. In our series, non-operative techniques were chosen in 6 cases because of chromosomal abnormalities or high risks for general anesthesia. Primary closure was done in 23 cases, and staged closure was performed in 13 cases. (author abst.)
