Abstract; In clinical management of acute pulmonary thromboembolism, the number of institutions that make use of D-dimer as a reference of diagnosis has been increased. That is to say, if a value of D-dimer is within normal limit, there is low probability of being acute pulmonary thromboembolism. That is why D-dimer has been regarded as a very important marker from the viewpoint of early diagnosis. However, if time from disease onset to drawing blood is too early or too late, or if anticoagulant therapy has already started, it is necessary to recognize that a value of D-dimer might be measured as a low level, and that it would be underestimated. Now, we stated some kinds of measuring methods of D-dimer available in Japan and characteristics of each method, and gave an outline to utilize rapid measuring methods on the basis of clinical situations.
