| Abstract;Thermo-elasto-plastic stress analyses for spheroidal graphite (SG) iron castings were performed to examine relationships between stress distributions and porosity defects. Stress distribution was calculated by the elastic perfectly plastic volume pixel finite element method (VOXEL-FEM). The stress analysis model used was plastic deformation for the solid phase and liquid phase of the castings. Thermal and volumetric expansions due to graphite growth were calculated by solidification analysis for SG cast iron. Time histories of average stress in liquid phase for simple shape castings showed that compressive stress occurred in a cylinder casting having no porosity defects and tensile stress in a plate casting having porosity. The results confirmed that porosity defects tend to form in regions where tensile stress develops. In order to confirm the availability of the method, further simulations were performed for complicated shape castings. Stress distributions from the calculated results showed good agreement with porosity observations of the castings. Therefore the proposed method using the elasto-plastic stress analysis can be reliable for porosity prediction in SG cast iron. (author abst.) |
