Abstract;Active children with a great deal of curiosity sometimes have unexpected accidents. Therefore, the traumas of children are often different from those of adults in patterns and outcomes. The traumas of children should be treated in a manner different from those of adults because they are special on both a physiological and an anatomical basis. It is known that it can be difficult to determine the sites and severities of traumas because injured children cannot clearly describe the condition of the accident and the trauma. However, the success or failure of treatment has a great impact on the life of a child both physicall and mentally. Therefore, appropriate initial treatment and evidence-based medicines are required in an environment considering the QOL. It is supposed that understanding the characteristics of trauma and facilities dedicated to traumatotherapy are indispensable. Unfortunately, there is no emergency medical system, and especially no pediatric trauma center in Japan. There are no guidelines for diagnosis and treatment, either. (author abst.)
