Abstract;Abdominal injury in children often has characteristics which are different from those in adults because of the differences in their life patterns, anatomy, and physiology. Therefore, on the occasion of primary treatment of abdominal injury in children, it is important to anticipate the areas where damage is most likely and do the information gathering, as far as it is possible, with the primary examination and decide on the necessary treatment level precisely. The possibility of child abuse most be considered. In the actual treatment, a secondary survey must be performed after a rapid primary survey. In the second survey examination, FAST (Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma) by ultrasonic examination is especially important; location and level of damage should be confirmed by precise diagnosis, and the focus should be on the internal organs. For children who have a great deal of real internal organ damage as adults, Interventional Radiology (IVR) and Damage Control Surgery (DCS) are effective and basic strategies. (author abst.)
