Abstract; We have treated 16 patients who suffered from intestinal injuries caused by trauma during the last 32 years at Kyorin University Hospital. The injured organs (and their numbers) were the following: esophagus (1), duodenum (12), and jejunum (3). Eight patients were operated on because of intestinal perforation (6 cases) or hematoma (2 cases). Traffic accidents were the main cause of injuries requiring surgery (50%). Duodenography was a useful method for the diagnosis of duodenal perforation. Patients with intestinal perforation were operated on as soon as they were diagnosed. Patients with duodenal hematoma were managed non-surgically in principle. (author abst.)
