Abstract; In Japan, the JATEC (Japan Advanced Trauma Evaluation and Care) protocol is standard policy for the management of an injured patient. Basic concepts of initial management of pediatric polytrauma are the same as those for adult patients. However, some consideration is required in the management of pediatric polytrauma due to the unique anatomical-physiological characteristics of the child. Especially, immediate confirmation and restoration of respiratory/circulatory crises are the most important item in primary a survey of pediatric polytrauma. Definitive diagnosis and care are not necessary during the primary survey. Every surgeon involved in the management of the injured children should be able to perform according to standard policy of trauma care. (author abst.)
