Abstract;Japanese Association of Site Management Organization (JASMO) conducted a research with fifty member companies (i.e. SMOs) to learn the current status of education/training of Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC) belonging to Site Management Organization (SMO), as well as the background of those. The member of CRCs covered by this research (JASMO-CRC) is 1299. Sixty percent of the companies hire CRCs as a parmanent employee while the remaining 40% of companies have CRC as the combination of a parmanent and a temporary employee. This difference between companies might indicate their rapid growth. As for the background speciality of those CRCs, 55% are nurses, 27% are medical laboratory technicians and 14% are pharmacists. This combination is different from that of CRCs in hospitals. Regarding the terms of job experience, while most of JASMO-CRC (87%) has less than three years job experience as a CRC, they have longer job experience as the employee of a medical institution. This phenomenon occurs due to the short history of CRC works in Japan. Although CRC education/training program vary between SMO companies, almost all companies have OJT program and assigned a well-experienced person as a trainer. For the contents of continuous education, many companies want to give the training for patho-physiological knowledge of common desease, because clinical trials of common desease are popular in SMO's work now. Currently there are still many problems related to education and training of JASMO-CRC, which come from various reason (e.g. type of SMO contract, working circumstance, and so on), however we conclude that education/training for CRC in each SMO company has been done eagerly at least.
