| Abstract;Recently Kampo (traditional Chinese medicine) has come to pay increased attention to evidence-based medicine (EBM). Traditional medical treatments like Kampo, which are based on observation and practitioner judgment, have been criticized as unscientific and unsystematic by modern medicine. Diagnosis and treatment in traditional Kampo medicine differs greatly from those of modern Western medicine, so it is important for Kampo practitioners to think about applications to evidence-based medicine and practice Kampo medicine based on objective clinical research data (evidence) and each individual patient's special characteristics ("sho"). In this way, Kampo treatment can conform to the philosophy of evidence-based medicine. (author abst.) |
