| Abstract;Oriental herbal medicines (Kampo) used to treat the common cold are described. Oriental herbal medicines are administered separately based on the principles of yingyang, deficiency-excess, and the 6 stages of disease. Generally, ephedra drugs, which are represented by mao-to and kakkon-to, are administered in the Taiyo-byoki (first excess stage), and saiko medicines, which are represented by shosaiko-to, are administered in the Shoyo-byoki (second excess stage). Gorei-san, which controls water metabolism, is effective for diarrhea and vomiting caused by rota virus. (author abst.) |
