| Abstract;The next-generation DVD has been sought for the long-hour recording of high-resolution pictures like high vision since digital broadcasting started. Smaller diameter and deeper shape with higher precision in shape are required in the pickup lenses for the next-generation DVD for higher recording density. Nachi further improved the ultra-precision machining technology of Nanometer level, in-line gauging technology and machine component/control technology that have been developed for the digital home appliance market in order to supply the high-quality lenses consistently. Furthermore, Nachi has developed and marketed the aspheric surface processing machine "Nano Aspher ASP-E" that machines ultra-precision, special-shape lens mold with high efficiency as the market for the next-generation DVD is expected to grow in the future.
