| Abstract;The effect when a Basedow disease patient becomes pregnant is described mainly on clinical test values. 1) What is Basedow disease, 2) sex ratio and crisis age, 3) the etiology, 4) clinical symptoms, 5) features of pregnancy of Basedow disease (effect on the mother, pregnancy and effect on fetus/newborn, effect of pregnancy on Basedow disease), 6) differentiating diagnosis, 7) transition of clinical test values (pregnancy of normal subject, pregnancy of Basedow disease patient, fluctuation of thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb) during pregnancy, Basedow disease of the newborn), and 8) case study, are explained. For Basedow disease patients, the intake of antithyroid drugs will be kept in the pregnancy. A weak correlation is recognized in the thyroxine (FT4) of the mother and child, when the intake is kept to the birth. Since FT4 is higher in the mother's blood, the thyroid function of the mother is maintained at a little higher level to bring the thyroid function of the fetus to the normal level. Both TRAb, which seems to be the pathogen of Basedow disease, and antithyroid drugs, pass through the placenta. Therefore, there is no problem in the foetus, if the thyroid function of the mother is controlled. However, after the birth, Basedow disease of the newborn is contracted in high TRAb cases, since the elimination is rapider for antithyroid drugs than for TRAb. After 4-5 days from the birth, tachycardia, easy stimulability, polypnea, sweating, appetite increase and poor weight gain are shown. In such a case, treatment for the newborn is necessary. Generally, as the disease state of Basedow disease is improved by pregnancy, use of the drugs can be suspended in many cases. In such cases, the mother and child correlation of FT4 is not recognized. |
