Abstract; The indication of Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) is not only chronic respiratory failure, and has been increasing in various acute respiratory failure. Trauma is not an exception, either, and it is given by one of the indication of NPPV. NPPV has been being one of the choices instead of invasive ventilation so called internal pneumatic stabilization or a surgical treatment, which is being done so far to the thoracic trauma patients. The reports have appeared, which apply NPPV successfully to the thoracic trauma patients with the use of epidural analgesia. When NPPV is applied to the thoracic trauma patients, it is a key to a success to control their pains fully. But, there is no Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) limited to the thoracic trauma patients. They try NPPV in the limited facilities at present. We hope for future RCT. (author abst.)
