Abstract; In eukaryotic organisms, a high-level DNA structure called chromatin accommodates cellular genetic information in nucleus and performs important functions for its accurate expression. Chromatin structure in genertal inhibits DNA from being bound to DNA binding factors that regulate life phenomena such as gene transcription, replication, repair, cell cycle and the like. It is now believed that two mechanisms, post-translational modification of histome by the histone modifying enzyme and ATP-dependent high-level structural change in chromatin by a remodeling factor, separetely or in concert assist various DNA-binding factors in binding with DNA and are involved in various life phenomena. This article focuses on the post-translational modification of histone and dicusses recent findings. (Author's abstract).
