Abstract;Ubiquitin covalently binds with a protein in a time- and space-specific manner and adds a new signal to the target protein. The ubiquitin system has been noted as a mechanism in charge of selective protein decomposition. As deubiquitinase and ubiquiting-binding proteins were found to exist one after another, it became clear that ubiquitin signals were reversibly controlled at various steps and protein decompsition is part of the process. This article outlines the basic metabolic pathway of ubiquitin and introduces a control mechanism of biofunctions via interaction between ubiquitin ligase and deubiquitinase. (Author's abstract).
