Abstract;A randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial was designed to assess the clinical therapeutic effect of persimmon leaf extract (PLE) in atopic dermatitis (AD). The study targeted 129 adult patients with AD ranging in severity from mild to moderate. The patients took 0.3 g of PLE, 1 g of PLE, or placebo in the form of a powdery tea twice a day for four weeks. In weeks 0, 2, and 4, SCORAD improved in three groups. In week 2, the itching score improved in the 0.3 g PLE group (p<0.1) and 1 g PLE group (p<0.1) as compared to the placebo group. These observations suggest that PLE is an effective adjunctive for the management of itching in atopic dermatitis. (author abst.)
