| Abstract;Introduction: Clinical trial is any investigation in human subjects intended to discover or verify the clinical, pharmacological and/or other pharmacodynamic effects of an investigational product(s), and/or to identify any adverse reaction to an investigational product(s), and/or to study absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion of an investigational product(s) with the object of ascertaining its safety and/or efficacy. Many physicians including primary care physicians are still skeptical about their involvement in clinical trials. Objective: To share my experience my personal opinions with regards to clinical trials. Design: This is based on my experience. Result: Doing clinical trials have advantages and disadvantages to the investigators, patients and sponsors. Among the advantages to the clinicians/investigators are extra money, travels overseas, academic achievement, experience in well-planned clinical trials, practice better medicine, experience working with experienced clinicians and peer recognition and experience with prerelease drugs. Benefits to the patient include better monitoring of patient's medical problems, manage by most experienced people and better relationship with physician resulting in better outcome of medical problem. There are also some benefits to the institution, pharmaceutical companies and the country as well. However, clinical trials also have disadvantages to the investigators, patients and sponsors as well. Primary Care Physicians should be involved in clinical trials because it reinforces our clinical practice. We can also apply some principles in Family Medicine and it can also be part of our continuous medical education program. Conclusion: Clinical trials provide many advantages to the investigators including primary care physicians, pharmaceutical industries, teaching institutions, the country in general and to a certain extent, subjects involved in the trials.
