| Abstract;Periprosthetic femoral fracture are difficult to treat, especially in cases with loose stems. We report the results of surgical treatment of three patients 1 man, 2 women, aged from 76-86 years with periprosthetic femoral fractures after hip replacement. Fractures were classified according to the Vancouver classification (Duncan and Masri) as type B2 (n=1) and B3 (n=2). They were treated by revision procedure using a long-stemmed, cementless implant with interlocking screws. Cancellous allografts were used to augment the bone stock in all cases. At the final follow-up examination (mean, 19 months), all three patients had stable fixation of the implants and union in all fractures. Marked reconstitution of proximal femoral bone stock by allograft was observed. The preliminary results of this method show a successful implant fixation and fracture healing with reconstitution of the femur. (author abst.) |
