Abstract;A novel local positioning system (LPS) using spread spectrum ultrasonic waves has been developed for the position measurement indoors and able to distinguish the signals on code division multiple transmission. However, for determining a position on the system, it is indispensable to notify the synchronized transmitting time of the transmitters. Here, by applying the TDOA method known well as a technology used with radio waves on hyperbolic navigation system, the arrival time difference makes it possible to measure the position without using any appliance for the synchronization of the transmitter and receiver. The efficiency and accuracy of the 2D locations obtained to apply the TDOA method to the LPS are discussed in this paper. (author abst.)
