Abstract; We propose a tactile display which can control spatial distribution of pressure on a 2-D surface with quite sufficient spatial and temporal resolution. The tactile display consists of eight ultrasound linear arrays arranged at each side of an octagon. Simulation studies were carried out to examine the adequacy of the proposed design. The ratio of the intensity at the second peak was 13.1 % of that at the focal point. The results were satisfactory compared to other polygonal arrangement. (author abst.)
