| Abstract; In this paper, we show development of a tree climbing robot, WOODY. In our country, Japan, growth and preservation of planted forests are very important problem, because the number of the forestry workers gradually decreases. To improve this situation, we are developing a tree climbing robot which can support the forest work, such as pruning and logging. The tree climbing robot is constructed of two holder units and an elevator unit. Each holder unit has two arms to adapt to curved trees and to avoid branches. The elevator unit has a ball screw and the robot climbs up and down like a measuring worm. We carried out an experiment in a planted forest, and confirmed the function of the robot. (author abst.) |
