Abstract; We investigated the backreaction of a minimally coupled massless quantum scalar field on a two-dimensional thick de Sitter brane. We demonstrated that a finite thickness regularizes the surface divergences arising from the Kaluza-Klein modes. We also obtained a theoretical bound on the thickness in terms of brane self-consistency and then discussed the case of a four-dimensional brane.
