Abstract; In the mid 20'th' century, it was revealed that DNA carries genetic information. Following two decades, many enzymes metabolizing DNA were found in E. coli, by which, new scientific fields have been established, such as, gene engineering and molecular biology. In the last 25 years, high density linkage maps were constructed using DNA markers and entire human chromosome sequencing was completed in 2003. Close on the heel of the human genome project, linkage maps of several domestic animals were constructed heading to the whole genome sequencing. In recently, chicken and bovine whole genome sequencings were completed. Whole genome sequencing accelerates genomic research, so that whole genome sequencing is very important for genomic research but not the goal of genomic research. By the whole genome sequencing it was revealed that there are 25000genes in human being. To reveal the relationship between genes and performance characteristics of domestic animals, interactions between genes should be revealed; how each genes works, how do they coordinately work and how do they construct a cascade. To reveal gene networks, it is essential to handle mRNA. Although, real-time PCR, cDNA micro-array method etc. are now available, we have to handle fresh tissues of enough numbers from living animals to prepare mRNA. This is the most difficult matter to find genes which affect on an economical trait of domestic animals. (author abst.)
