Abstract; In this experiment, we studied the expression of C/EBP family (C/EBP.ALPHA., C/EBP.BETA. and C/EBP.DELTA.) and PPAR.GAMMA. protein levels from different fat depots (subcutaneous, mesenteric and intermuscular fat tissue) of Japanese Black and Holstein steers. The expression of C/EBP.DELTA. in subcutaneous and intermuscular fat tissue of Japanese Black steers were higher than Holstein steers in 19 months of age, although there were no significant difference between two breeds in 24 months of age. The expression of C/EBP.ALPHA. in subcutaneous and intermuscular fat tissue of Japanese Black steers were higher than Holstein steers in 19 months of age, although there were no significant difference between two breeds in 24 months of age. No significant differences in C/EBP.BETA. and PPAR.GAMMA. level were observed between two breeds for any fat depots. The percentages of subcutaneous and intermuscular fat tissues of Japanese Black steers were higher than those of Holstein steers in 19 months of age, although there were no significant difference between two breeds in 24 months of age. These results suggest that C/EBP.ALPHA. and C/EBP.DELTA. might play important roles in regulating bovine adiipogenesis and might affect the fat accumulation ability of these breeds. (author abst.)
