Abstract;Blood levels of surfactant protein and type II phospholipase A2 (type II PLA2), in the presence of acute lung injury (ALI)/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) associated with diffuse peritonitis, were measured. Blood levels of surfactant protein-D (SP-D) and type II PLA2 were elevated at the time ALI/ARDS manifested. There was a significant correlation between SP-D and type II PLA2. The results suggest SP-D and type II PLA2 to be involved in the manifestations of ALI/ARDS. (author abst.)
