| Abstract;A 24-year-old female who had no personal nor family history admitted because of her lower abdominal pain with general bleeding tendency. She prevailed to have a hemorrhagic mass near the right ovary with much fluid in the Douglas space. Her platelet counts reduced to 0.2 * 10'4'/.MU.L without any hemostatic abnormalities, so she was diagnosed as having an acute idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), and immediately had a transfusion of platelet-rich plasma with an administration of the corticosteriod. On clinical course, her platelet counts recovered to the normal level with an improvement of her peritoneal hemorrhage. This is the first case of acute ITP presenting as an ovarian hemorrhage on reference so far. (author abst.) |
