Abstract; As to vertical distribution of yellowfin tuna, the authors have intended to focus on the relationship between the sexual maturity stage and water temperature conditions through tuna longline fisheries and oceanographic observations. The authors found that the main fishing stratum and optimum water temperature of yellowfin tuna existed respectively between a zone "from 80m to 150m deep and at a temperature of 25.DEG.C. and 28.DEG.C.". This signified that an optimum hook range of yellowfin tuna was in rather shallower water and in higher temperature more than approached in the past studies. These individuals were observed to be far advanced in mature stage rather than examined in the preceding studies for vertical distribution of yellowfin tuna. This fact also showed that "mature individuals were strongly inclined to become lively in spawning activity in the shallow layers". (author abst.)
