| Abstract;Agonist-antagonists counteracts analgesis actions of narcotics like morphine with its specific pharmacologic effect against mu-opioid receptor. Pentazocine is a typical agonist-antagonist (mixed agonist-antagonist). Buprenorphine displays its analgesic action through mu receptor. Some drugs that exhibit analgesic action in different mechanisms are also classified as agonist-antagonists. Tramadol is one such drug. Characteristics of these agents should be further exploited to compensate the poverty of such agents approved in Japan. |
