Abstract;Types of drugs used for cancer pain treatment include analgetics (opioid and non-opioid analgetics), antiarrhythmic drugs, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and glucocorticoids. Morphine is the most commonly used opioid analgesic. Morphine acts effectively against nociceptive pain, but shows only poor efficacy against neuropathic pain or muscle spasm pain. The WHO model for cancer pain treatment focuses on periodic oral administration of morphine and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In particular, effective use of morphine is critical for successful treatment. Preventing constipation in patients under oral administration of morphine is very important.
