Abstract;Alleviation of depression among cancer patients through antidepressants can potentially alleviate cancer pain. Tricyclic antidepressants, especially amitriptyline, are recognized for their efficacy against neuropathic pain. Adjuvant analgesics are usually combined with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents or narcotics for control of cancer pain based on the three step ladder of the WHO model. Antidepressants are effective against prolonged neuropathic pain. Antidepressants for pain control among cancer patients should be used based on good understanding of conditions of each patient.
